What is a podcast?
A podcast is an audio show (radio show) that you can listen to whenever you want. You don’t have to “tune in” at a certain time or station.
Who makes podcasts?
Anyone! From individuals to big media companies like NPR, PBS, and the New York Times. But the great thing about podcasts is that anyone can record them and put them out on the “airwaves.” You don’t need a big studio or tons of money. I started one podcast by recording it on my iphone in my closet (many podcasters start in the closet because the clothes muffle any echo, making it sound like a professional recording booth!)
How do I listen to podcasts?
There are many ways to listen to podcasts. Most mobile phones come with a podcast player already installed. iPhones come with Apple Podcasts and Androids come with Google Podcasts. You can also download other podcast players from your app store like Spotify, Pocketcast, or Castbox. If you have an Alexa device, you can ask Alexa to play a certain podcast! Most podcasts also have a way of playing episodes directly from their website. Here’s an example: The Baby Names Podcast.
What kind of shows are there?
Anything and everything! From true crime to news to parenting, crafting, drinking, history, writing, television shows, comic books, and interview shows. Just browse the shows by category in your podcast app or search for something that interests you. You can also use PodSearch.com to search for shows.
How do I know when there’s a new episode?
That’s easy! For podcasts that you love and want to follow, just SUBSCRIBE to them (it’s free). That way when a new episode comes out, it’s automatically downloaded to your player. Once you find podcasts you love, you’ll start binging–just like with your favorite TV shows.
